A Fun-Filled Week
Posted by: Amy on Sunday, January 04, 2009 - 11:55 AM GMT

This past week we got some quality-time with Ben while he was off from school. We played games, put together puzzles, played in the backyard, and even set him up on Yahoo! messenger so he could visit with us and family from his "LT" (that's the nickname he and Papa Bobby gave his laptop).

We spent a great afternoon at Fiesta Texas with friend Madison. The park was still decorated and all lit up for Christmas (it was beautiful!). They had a snow hill set up for us to go sledding (WWWHHHEEEEEEEEEE!). And we rode ride after ride, ending the evening with a thrill (the Roadrunner Express roller coaster).

Then we got to visit with friends Michelle and Alex who were in town for the weekend. Yesterday the boys played, we visited, and we went to the movies to see Bolt. And this morning we all got together again for breakfast and playground time. It was so good to see Michelle! And the boys had so much fun together.

Happy New Year! Happy Birthday, Sophie!
Posted by: Amy on Thursday, January 01, 2009 - 06:49 PM GMT

2008 was a grand year! And 2009 is shaping up to be more of the same. It was a fun day!

We lounged, we ran some errands. Then we headed up to the hike and bike trail to enjoy the beautiful weather and get in a nice walk.

Then we headed back home to celebrate Sophie's first birthday, complete with a homemade party hat and a cornbread birthday "cake." She loved it! And the rest of the cornbread muffins went wonderfully with the tortilla soup that had been stewing all day in our crock pot. YUM!

We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. And may you have many blessings, joys, and surprises in this new year. :)

Yet Another Comparison!
Posted by: Amy on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 02:52 PM GMT

For a couple of these, I tried my best to find matching outfits and pull out the same chair and bench, recreate the same spots on the porches. And the other comparison I just looked for similar expressions in my collection of photos of both of them. But they're obviously looking less and less alike...

Whatcha think?

Give Me an M-O-M!
Posted by: Amy on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 01:27 PM GMT

You've heard it- Being a mom is the hardest job ever. Being a stay-at-home mom is even tougher.

Any idea what you should be paid for all the duties you perform as a stay-at-home mom? According to the latest research, we should be earning $138,000 a year. I don't know about you, but we sure could use that! Here's a link to an article about all the different roles we perform and the hours we work a week. Pretty cool.

And here's a link to a video. It's a funny tribute to moms by the group Go Fish. I was first introduced to the group by MOPS, and then was re-exposed to the great song when Ben received the cd from Mary for Christmas. Enjoy!

Christmas Celebrating Part IV
Posted by: Amy on Friday, December 26, 2008 - 10:32 PM GMT

What a fabulous holiday! To get to spend time with cherished family and friends, to eat a glorious amount of wonderful food, to give of ourselves and receive. How blessed we are!

We spent Monday in San Antonio with friends Marli, Robert, Mandy, and Mary. We saw The Polar Express at the IMAX and then headed to lunch at The Rainforest Cafe. The kids had such a great time!

On Christmas Eve we all drove down to Orange Grove to spend the day with my family. Ben got to drive Granny Dorothy and Papa Marvin's golf cart all day; we visited with family; we ate the best down-home cooking! After opening presents and rolling out the door, we finally got back home at midnight (just in time to tuck ourselves in to wait for Santa).

Christmas morning was filled with squeals of surprise and laughter as we all went through our stockings and opened gifts. Then we headed to Nathan's grandparents' house for another get-together of food and family.

Today we went to Uncle Andy and Aunt Ann's for breakfast, got to spend the day finally relaxing, and then had my parents over for dinner and another gift exchange.

For Ben's friends, we were so thrilled to make and hand out candies, frames, and ornaments. For family, we had a blast making and giving peppermint bark, hot chocolate mixes, pickles, soup mixes, cookie mixes, and steak rubs. Yum!

And we received the best gifts- toys, books, cd's. We even got a couple of Home Depot gift cards (maybe we can finally get new wood floors!) Thanks everyone for the wonderful presents. And thank you Santa for the telescope!

Christmas Celebrating Part III
Posted by: Amy on Monday, December 22, 2008 - 07:21 AM GMT

Another fun week! We...

Kept Shutter-Happy's doors open so people could get in for last-minute Christmas sessions, print consults, and print pick-ups,

Attended Ben's class' Christmas party and gift exchange,

Did our last-minute Christmas shopping,

Went to another Dream Dinners session to make some more yummy meals,

And spent the entire weekend mixing, canning, wrapping, and packaging everyone's Christmas presents. Who knew trying to save money by making everyone's gifts would cost so much and take so much of your time?!

Six Months is My Favorite Age!
Posted by: Amy on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - 12:29 PM GMT

I've been saying it for years now- "Six months is my favorite age!" But I could never recall why exactly I decided that. Was it because I have my fondest memories of Ben at that age? Or is it just that I love every 6-month-old that comes in and the photo opportunity that age presents? Was never sure...

But Evan turned six months last week and voila! He's sleeping through the night again. He's eating rice cereal like a mad man. So now there's fewer bottles to give. He's actually cut his bottle intake by half! He's sitting. This has now freed him up to play in a whole new way and gives me an opportunity to walk away if there's a chore beckoning or phone ringing. And his personality is shining. He's such a cute little guy! Look at that doll! --> Don't you just want to squeeze those cheeks?!

Side note from doctor's appointment today- 24 pounds, 12 ounces; 29 inches long. This is why we call him "Chunk." ;)

Christmas Celebrating Part II
Posted by: Amy on Sunday, December 14, 2008 - 09:55 PM GMT

Another glorious week! We...

Attended our MOPS Christmas meeting,

Made gingerbread houses with Madison and then had a great playdate,

Attended Rackspace's Christmas event for the kids,

Were surprised with snow!

Baked and delivered dozens of cookies to our neighbors,

Walked around the Christmas Market Days to find our family Christmas present (a gorgeous new wooden swing to replace our current broken one),

And enjoyed a great afternoon of running around and doing gymnastics and "cheese slams!" at Mary's birthday party with Mary, Robert, Lillian, and Madison.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!
Posted by: Amy on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 10:47 AM GMT

After a record high yesterday, we were shocked to see snow in the yard this morning! There was snow in Boerne!

Ben had a chance to take a good look before getting on the bus this morning. Sophie could not wait to get back into the house. Evan was tickled to see something new.

10:00 pm- Evan's photo was just on the FOX 9:00 news!!!!!!!! Ha!

A Letter to Santa I
Posted by: Amy on Monday, December 01, 2008 - 12:25 PM GMT

Dear Santa,

I've been good all year. Could you please bring me...

Peace on earth. For the sake of our nation and our world, grant us days without violence, without robberies, without disasters. Give the news media uplifting stories for our nightly news.

If you can't bring us peace, new wood floors would be a dream! Did you see the recent story on The Today Show about what is living in our carpets and what our vacuums are spreading throughout our house?! For the health and safety of our children (and for the beauty of our home), could you help us with new flooring?

Hope you're having a great holiday season!

Love,
Amy

PS- Speaking for Evan- he could use some diapers, formula, and baby food; he would love any toy that lights up and makes noise.

A Thanksgiving for the Memory Books!
Posted by: Amy on Saturday, November 29, 2008 - 11:55 AM GMT

Could the celebration actually have started a week ago?

Last Saturday was a great day! We met my parents up at Bass Pro Shops so the kids could enjoy the store's Christmas events and sit with Santa. Then, Nathan and I were off to enjoy a weekend without the boys. We first headed to our Dream Dinners appointment, making some fantastic meals, including a bunch of side dishes for our Thanksgiving feast. Then we headed home for a nap. To top off the evening, we were off to Austin for Myk's birthday party. Myk (turning 30 again) entertained well, will great bbq, drinks, and company.

Sunday (after spending the night with Jenny), we had THE BEST breakfast at The Original Pancake House and then drove back to Boerne to enjoy the day and wait for the boys to get back from Camp Granmom.

On Tuesday, Jenny, Evan, and I drove up to Curington to spend the morning with Ben's class. Everyone was dressed as indians, and they got to have snack in a big tee-pee set up behind the school (really cool!). That night we had a picnic in the living room, complete with a movie and popcorn (so much fun!).

Thursday was Turkey Day. The day was spent visiting, eating, playing a game of frisbee, eating some more, bowling, watching the Cowboys and Longhorns win their games, and eating some more! It was spent with Larry and Debbie, Bobby and Loretta, and Jenny (we were missing Angie). Surrounded by the people we love and more than enough food, we realized once again how truly blessed we are.

But the high didn't stop there! Yesterday Nathan and I made a stop at Toys R Us to get the boys' Christmas gifts from Marvin and Dorothy. We made all the right moves to get in and out of that mad house in less than half an hour (with a bunch of great toys!). Then we all headed to Ed and Joyce's for a visit. Next stop was the Pipe Creek Christmas tree farm where we cut down our tree for this year. And last, we spent an evening on Main Street playing in the "snow", eating, riding in a horse-drawn carriage, and (did I mention?) eating.

THANK YOU to all who spent Thanksgiving Day with us. We had such a great time! And thanks SO much to Jenny. Your help all week was much appreciated. And to all who weren't with us, we hope your day was just as blessed. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
