Yes, I know this is late! Long story short, we painted our gifts to Nathan two weeks before the big day. But one gift got warped in the kiln and needed to be redone. And due to the craziness around here, we just couldn’t get back to the pottery shop until today to redo our project…
But it’s now done, and we can give Nathan his Father’s Day gift this coming weekend! Yay! (I’ll post the pic here soon)
Hope you had a wonderful Father’s Day, Nathan. You are a great dad; the boys are just crazy about you. We love you!

We got the new pool set up quickly… and have enjoyed it every afternoon this whole week! It’s just deep and wide enough for Ben to act like a fish; it’s just shallow enough for Evan to touch the bottom and be able to move himself around while in his float ring; and it’s just perfect for us adults to sit and stay cool. FUN!
We also had a couple of great outings…
We went to the zoo on Wednesday with Erica and Madison. It was terribly hot, but we had a wonderful time. The kids got to enjoy all the animals in the Africa Live exhibit and all the fun activities in the Tiny Tot Nature Spot. Then we headed out for a ride on the train.
And Friday Nathan and Ben had a fun boys’ night out, complete with snowcones and watching “The Neverending Story” at the plaza.
The weekend? It was odd… no work on the flooring, no big errands, no important projects. We just took it easy and enjoyed the summer.

I decided to make a quick comparison of the boys’ first years’ before I completely forget everything. There were lots of similarities, but some differences…
| BEN |
| Intake |
would only take bottles; sometimes used pacifier; picky eater when baby foods and solids were introduced; but would pick anything up off the ground to put in his mouth |
| Growth |
was 9 pounds, 14 ounces and 21.25 inches long at birth; 26 pounds, 2 ounces and 31.5 inches tall at 1 year |
| Physical Development |
rolled over at 4 months; sitting at 6 months; crawling by 7 months; was walking by 11 months |
| Talking |
first word was “moo” at 10 months; quickly added “book,” “Daisy,” “bug,” “bye-bye,” “mommy,” and “daddy” |
| Extras |
would wave to everyone; helped dress and undress himself; easy-going |
| Loved |
baths, doorway jumper, Daisy, books, swing, dancing, anything with wheels, getting into cabinets, playing outside, and his sippy cup (had a crush on it!) |
| Evan |
| Intake |
breastfed for a few months; took bottles too; liked pacifier for a while; loved any baby or solid food put in front of him; would chew on anything he found off the ground |
| Growth |
was 9 pounds, 5 ounces and 20.75 inches long at birth; 30 pounds, 6 ounces and 32.5 inches long at 1 year |
| Physical Development |
rolled over at 4 months; sitting at 6 months; waited to crawl at 8 months; walked by 11 months |
| Talking |
Nothing yet!!! |
| Extras |
tee-teed on everyone as an infant; will wave to everyone; easy-going; became quite a whiner around 10 months |
| Loved |
baths, doorway jumper, Sophie, Ben, books, swing, dancing, anything with wheels, playing outside |

Well, Nathan and I spent the entire last week catching up on work and laying the flooring, all while the boys were in Ft. Worth with Granmom Debbie and Papa Larry…
And then it was time to celebrate the little one’s birthday with a fun-filled, completely action-packed day!
We started Saturday with all of us heading out to the Berges Fest parade. Ben had a blast waving to the floats, visiting with the clowns, and grabbing candy. Evan fell asleep!
Then everyone came to our house for the safari party. Evan was tickled to have so many friendly faces here, to get to eat cake (and make a terrible mess), and to discover some new toys!
Last, we made our way up to the fairgrounds to listen to the German band. Everyone got to kick back and enjoy the sounds; Ben ate most of a funnel cake all by himself; Evan and I got to dance.
And then Sunday, we kept celebrating Evan’s birthday along with Father’s Day. We headed to Fiesta Texas for a wonderful time at the waterpark. We floated around the lazy river and played in the pools. Ben had a blast in the treehouse, going down those waterslides over a dozen times!
It was all exhausting, but so much fun!
Our thanks:
Thank you to Larry and Debbie for keeping the boys for the week. Being able to have that time to get things done around here was priceless. We so appreciate it!
And thank you to all who came to the party and for the wonderful gifts. We hope you all had a great time.
PS- We made it by Target to buy a pool with Evan’s birthday money. Can’t wait to set it up!

Ben had Vacation Bible School all week. He had a great time with his tribe- the games, activities, crafts, and songs.
And each afternoon we had a fun activity…
Monday the boys got to go play at Granmom and Papa’s while Nathan and I got to attend a Rackspace event. Tuesday I took the boys to the city pool for a swim and playdate with Morgan and Landon. Wednesday we headed down to the zoo for Evan’s birthday and got to ride the train, play on the playground, and have a picnic dinner. And Thursday Nathan took the boys up to church for s’mores by the campfire.
On Friday we left town for the annual Johnson/LaCrosse family reunion. That night cousins Seth and Lora had everyone over to their house for dinner. And Saturday was spent at the park, the hotel pool, and Zio’s for dinner. Everyone had a blast! Ben especially loved getting to play with his cousins Jayden and Oren.
And today Nathan and I left the boys in Ft. Worth to come on back for my conference, work, and to finish laying the flooring. Can’t wait to see how this week goes…

It was a draining week, just exhausting…
The highs were wonderful. We had a great visit with Myk on Tuesday. Then we made it to the german concert at the plaza- to enjoy the music, our friends, and snowcones! On Wednesday, we had a wonderful storytime at the library and had our friends over for lunch (picnic in the living room). Then we headed to Pottery Creation to paint some masterpieces (each kid got to paint a piece of pottery of their choice, and some of us moms got to create something too). And today we enjoyed Boerne’s Adventure Fest. We rode in the “noodle train” a couple of times; and Ben got to drive r/c cars, climb a rock wall, play in a jumping castle, and fish. FUN!
Oh, but the lows… We had a big problem with a client that caused so much stress. Ben is having a hard time adjusting to being home all day and having Evan here (who wants to get into everything he is doing). And Evan has been extremely whiny and clingy (I suddenly have this huge 30-pound growth on my leg). I’ve been lucky to get any work done, get dinners made, and keep my sanity.
Got Evan’s 1-year portraits done —–>
