D2X_9299This past week was a blast!

Saturday started off with Ben’s first soccer game and first goal ever! It was so exciting! And then we headed off to two birthday parties. Morgan’s was horse-themed, with Ryan and Katy going all-out. They had pony rides, a petting zoo, and pinata. And there’s no telling what else we missed when we had to head out to party #2. But we were so glad that we made the effort to make it to Robert’s party. His was at Gymboree, and the kids got to climb, tumble, dance, and play (just be kids). It was a blast! Giggles floated up into the air just like the bubbles did.

This week Ben had a great soccer practice, Evan had a fun music class. And Nathan and I enjoyed going to another Dream Dinners session. All of the dinners we put together sound amazing, and we can’t wait to try them.

And this morning Ben rocked! While we have no idea what the end score was of the game, and we’re not quite sure how many goals he scored himself… we do know that he was smokin’ during the first quarter. We think he got two or three goals just in the first 15 minutes. I SO regret not having the video camera there. ;)

D2X_5614_2Who knew that when we signed Ben up for soccer a couple of months ago I would soon become a sponsor of the team and that Nathan would quickly be talked into becoming a coach?! Well, that’s the way it happened. And after a practice earlier in the week, getting their jerseys this morning, and their game earlier today, it is really sinking in that I’m a “soccer mom.”

Watching the game this morning, I had mixed feelings. They seemed so small and so young to be playing on a real team (yes, I still think of Ben as my baby). And yet, they seemed so grown up, playing as they did. And it was funny to watch, with all the kids just kind of chasing the ball around and with many kicking it in the wrong direction. And it was a blast, so much fun getting to cheer the team along.

The game went as follows: One teammate had experience from playing the year before. He knew exactly what to do and scored almost all of the goals for the team. Another boy also seemed to be very driven and experienced, scoring a couple of the goals. And Ben finally got his feet on the ball. He handled the ball well, getting it all the way down the field two different times. And one of the times resulted in a goal. He scored!!!

Can’t wait for the next game!

DSC03158Family time is the best time!

Last week… we spent Labor Day at home playing games, baking, and the boys wading in the pool. Marli, Robert, and baby Lillian stopped by for a great visit. And we celebrated our 8th anniversary with a wonderful meal from our Dream Dinners session.

Last weekend… we camped at Garner with my parents. We all had a wonderful time. On Saturday we spent the afternoon swimming and then played putt-putt golf. On Sunday, the boys went fishing (where Ben proceeded to catch his first fish ever!!! and then his second… and then his third!!!). And then we all hit the river again and tried out the rapids.

This past week… Evan and I attended our first MOPS meeting of this school year. And we began the semester of our music class. Evan was wonderful for both outings and really seemed to be tickled by the fun we had at our music class.

And this weekend… was spent getting ready for soccer and enjoying an afternoon at Fiesta Texas. Ben so enjoyed buying his soccer shoes and shin guards and getting to practice with Daddy. And he loved having both Nathan and I there to ride the rides at Fiesta Texas with him.

My one hope is that our boys always remember these days spent having fun as a family.

D2X_6595Why 13? Not sure. This all stems to a response to Jenny’s and Momster’s blogs. So here’s some things you may (or may not) know about me…

1. I have a tattoo. It’s a daisy on my upper back that I had done while I was in college at UTSA. Still don’t regret it.

2. I hate slimy things. Mushrooms, oysters, eggs, etc. Can’t eat them. Don’t even like to look at them. Yuck!

3. Pregnancy does not agree with me. Besides feeling awful every day, the constant vomiting quite frequently lends itself to dehydration and trips to the urgent care clinic and the hospital. Don’t think I can do it again.

4. It took me almost 30 years to find my calling. I’ve been a receptionist, a veterinary nurse, and a preschool teacher. Then I found photography. I was meant to be Shutter-Happy.

5. We don’t have cable. We don’t have TIVO. There is no big screen or flat screen TV in the house. We watch very little television. But I do frequently view- “Guiding Light,” “Oprah,” “ER,” and “Amazing Race.”

6. I love the water. Put me near or in a river, a lake, or the beach and I’m a happy girl.

7. I’m a chocoholic. And it seems to have gotten worse since Evan was born. Maybe this is why I just can’t get that baby weight off?

8. I hate clutter. I like to have very few things, and everything has its place. I throw everything not necessary away. But the hubby keeps everything. “You never know when we’ll need this ____ (insert any word here),” he says. Argh!

9. I’m proud of the fact I’m best friends with two wonderful people I’ve known since I was little. Myk Simpson (formerly Mike Plunk) once pulled my pigtails on the playground in kindergarten and was my boyfriend in 5th grade. And Marli Carollo (formerly Marli Hoelscher) has been a good friend since middle school.

10. I don’t know anyone’s phone number, not even my own mobile number. Are cell phones with their easy-dial contact lists to blame?

11. I LOVE to mow! I don’t know if it’s the solitude, the smell of fresh-cut grass, or the feel of accomplishment I get from the chore, but I just love it.

12. I LOVE pickle juice! Dill. I’ll frequently drink it straight out of the jar. Mmmmmhhhhh…

13. I’m fine with our home being a little bit dirty, a little dusty. I like having a happy home. That’s more important to me than sparkling floor and sinks.

D2X_4190A few weeks ago Nathan couldn’t wait to tell everyone about Ben riding his bike without training wheels (because he’s known for months that Ben could do it!). And he was so proud of Ben for a great first week of kindergarten. But we’re always excited about what Ben’s up to, right? Well, how about other reasons to smile?

Over the weekend I put Evan in his new onesie we just received from Rackspace. Nathan beamed with pride when he got a glimpse of his little Racker in that outfit. What a proud Dad!

And this evening Nathan rolled into the driveway in his new car! After a few years of suffering through Texas heat without a/c in his Blazer, we were finally able to get him a vehicle with air! While it’s not the SUV he’s wanting and it’s not brand new (we just couldn’t afford either), he got himself a nice-looking Volkswagen Passat that’s roomy enough for the whole family, gets great gas mileage, and has a sunroof! Cool!
